Collaborating for Care: Intersectional Campus-Community Partnerships for Student Mental Health and Wellbeing

Join us for the next Global Speaker Series event, occurring live at the 2026 Inlight Annual Research Symposium!

“Collaborating for Care: Intersectional Campus-Community Partnerships for Student Mental Health and Wellbeing” on May 6th, 2026 at 11:30 am EST | 4:30 pm BST | 10:30 am CST.

This event will feature Prof. Notisha Massaquoi (University of Toronto), Jenny Hui (Ontario Institute for Studies in Education), and Chanda Chandalala (Health & Wellness). Post-secondary institutions are increasingly seeking partnerships with community-based organizations (CBOs) to support and promote inclusive student mental health and wellness strategies through a whole-of-community approach that addresses service gaps and improves access. This panel explores the importance of intersectionality in shaping meaningful, effective partnerships between institutions and community organizations serving students with diverse identities and lived experiences. Drawing on an array of perspectives, panellists will explore how attention to intersecting social locations, such as race, gender, class, and disability, can inform more responsive program design, relationship-building, and student support approaches. Through discussion of collaborative initiatives and shared objectives, the session will highlight how approaches grounded in intersectionality can foster and strengthen partnerships and contribute to more inclusive and supportive educational environments. This panel will be moderated by Inlight Associate Director Prof. Julius Haag.

The Global Speaker Series highlights the latest research in post-secondary student mental health around the world. This series provides the opportunity for faculty and students of all levels to present their interests and expertise in the interdisciplinary field of student mental health.

Each event will be a one-hour session.

These events will provide live captioning, and a recording of the presentations will be available to registrants after the session. If you require a copy of the presentation slides before the event, please email us at studentmh.research@utoronto.ca
